Rising Waters: Photographs of Sandy is an exhibition of photographs taken in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan as well as New Jersey; they capture the superstorm, the damage and the aftermath. Culled from over 10,000 images sent by both professional photographers and New Yorkers who caught astonishing moments on their cell phones, many shots will make viewers feel that the photographer, in fact, should not have paused to take the picture. Superstorm Sandy was the most destructive storm to ever hit the region.

This exhibition is part of the Museum of the City of New York's ongoing initiative to present the photographic works of people from all walks of life as they capture pivotal moments in the city's history and is presented in conjunction with the International Center of Photography. It is on view through March 2, 2014.
