Philip Levine, the present Poet Laureate of the United States, was born in 1928 in Detroit to Russian-Jewish immigrants. In October 2009, he published his 17th collection of poetry News of the World. His work has won many awards, including two National Book Awards, the National Book Critics Award, and the Pulitzer in 1995.
Andrew Moore is best known for large color images of Cuba, Russia, Times Square, and Detroit. His photographs are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Yale University Art Gallery, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the George Eastman House, and the Library of Congress, among many other institutions. His recent bestselling book Detroit Disassembled, including an essay by Poet Laureate Philip Levine, was published in 2010 and accompanies a traveling exhibition of the same title.
