These distinguished panelists will address questions about the most recent developments in new media and whether the term itself continues to have meaning.

PANELISTS:

Karen Archey is an art critic and curator based in New York, and the 2012–2013 Curator-in-Residence at Abrons Arts Center. Archey's writing has appeared in Spike Art Quarterly, Art-Agenda, Frieze, Art Review, Kaleidoscope, Red Hook Journal, Modern Painters, and LEAP, where she maintains a bilingual Chinese/English column introducing the work of Western artists to Chinese audiences. She has organized the panel "Post-Net Aesthetics" in collaboration with Rhizome at the ICA London, which will take place October 17th, 2013, and is curating a survey of post-internet art at Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, launching January 2014.

Catherine Chalmers is an American photographer, filmmaker, and installation artist whose large-scale work on insects was recently featured at the NY Media Center. She was the recipient of a 2010 John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. She exhibited in the 2006 ICP Triennial Ecotopia, and had a retrospective of her work at the Boise Art Museum in Boise, Idaho, in 2008. She has exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; the Kunsthalle Basel; the Kunsthalle Vienna; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei.

Edward Earle is the Curator of Collections at the International Center of Photography. At ICP, he has curated a retrospective of MANUAL, the collaborative work of Ed Hill and Suzanne Bloom, as well as two Triennial exhibitions. Previously, Earle developed new media projects at the California Museum of Photography at UC Riverside; in addition to exhibitions and websites, the new media program hosted a series of artists in residence. A graduate of the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY, Earle also worked at the Photographic Resource Center, Boston, and the Museum of the Moving Image, Queens.

Glenn Wharton's work as an art conservator and professor focuses on the conservation and study of modern and contemporary art collections. Wharton is currently the Clinical Associate Professor of Museum Studies at NYU; he has also served as the Time-Based Media Conservator at MoMA, and Research Scholar at the Department of Museum Studies at NYU. Wharton’s most recent publications illuminate the concerns of documenting and managing contemporary art in museums.
