Join us for a conversation with renowned artist Christian Marclay and ICP Chief Curator Brian Wallis.

Christian Marclay negotiates audible and visual media through the narratives and objects which enliven them. By pairing performance and various visual media with sound, he transforms the unseen into something physical. In his widely recognized work, The Clock (2010), he synchronizes a composition of thousands of movie clips to the local time of the installation. Overwhelmed with the nostalgia of familiar movie fragments showcasing clocks, viewers experience the intersection of visual culture and narrative in a temporal moment.

In 1979, while still a student, Marclay began his exploration sound and art with performances including turntables; music writer and critic Thom Jurek suggests Marclay is the "unwitting inventor of turntablism."

Marclay's work has been shown at the Louvre Museum (2009), Whitney Museum of American Art (2010), and the Venice Biennale (2011), where he won the Golden Lion award. Marclay is represented by Paula Cooper Gallery in New York.
