Walid Raad fuses his identities as multimedia artist and scholar to explore the relationship between truth and historical narratives. His fictitious organization, the Atlas Group, challenges viewers with its illusory yet convincing artifacts of Lebanese contemporary history. Raad's recent work concerns the physical and philosophical journeys of art as it enters the burgeoning cultural institutions of the Arab world.

Raad is an Associate Professor of Art at The Cooper Union and a member of the Arab Image Foundation. Along with publishing numerous literary works, his work has been exhibited at MoMA (2004, 2005) and the Venice Biennale (2003), among others.
