Rosalyn had trouble asking for help. After four weeks in a shelter, she panicked about her son's upcoming birthday. She wanted to give him a party. A counselor found Rosalyn in a hallway, upset that she had no money and that her children were being deprived of everyday childhood experiences because of their father, who hadn't even sent his son a birthday card. The counselor assured her that the center was equipped to handle such occasions, with everything from cake to balloons.
