As indicated on the head of their drum, these musicians are members of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows (GUOOF), a black fraternal organization and mutual aid society formed in 1843 in Baltimore. Peter Ogden, a black sailor initiated into Odd Fellowship in England, founded the order when the American Independent Order of Odd Fellows refused to accept men of African descent.
