Maintenance and Building Support

Essential member of team responsible for keeping and maintaining all facilities clean and orderly. Areas include but are not limited to: lobbies, classrooms, photo and computer labs, galleries, offices, student and staff lounge areas, pavilion, restrooms, museum store, café, Long Island City MFA studios, and other ICP-related spaces. Should always be helpful and willing to cooperate with fellow co-workers in all departments. Must follow and complete the official Maintenance Checklist for all duties.


• Clean all classrooms, studio, seminar rooms—includes moving, breaking down, setting up of chairs and tables
• Clean photo labs, digital labs, and other open lab areas including sinks, counters, revolving doors, and walls
• Clean all office areas
• Clean and disinfect restrooms—wipe mirrors and sinks, replenish toilet paper, paper towels, and soap dispensers
• Keep and maintain all public areas cleaned
• Sweep, mop, and buff (if needed) floors
• Vacuum carpets
• Replace broken and non-working light bulbs
• Set up and break down chairs, tables, platform, podium as directed for lectures, workshops, exhibition openings, book signings, and other special events
• Clean refrigerators and microwaves as needed
• Report unsafe and inappropriate situations
• Work regular shifts with additional hours as needed. Will occasionally need to adjust schedule to accommodate other staff members' annual leave, personal days, and sick days, including early mornings, weekends, and evenings
• Fill out daily responsibility checklist


• Make inter-office mail delivery and off-site messenger delivery
• Receive and deliver incoming and outgoing packages
• Move boxes and equipment as directed
• Assist with maintenance supply orders
• Occasional front desk coverage acting as Visitor Services Assistant
• Assist at special events as instructed
• Touch up painting and minor wall repair
• Other responsibilities as assigned


• High School diploma or equivalent


• Previous experience with facility maintenance is an advantage but not required


• Must be responsible and efficient
• Should have general knowledge of cleaning products and their proper uses
• Should have knowledge of using buffing machine
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English sufficiently to take instructions and phone messages, complete Maintenance Checklist, and leave written messages
• Must be willing/able to work in highly visible environment
• Must be well-groomed and maintain good hygiene
• Additional languages helpful
• Computer knowledge preferred


Physical Demands:
• Some medium to heavy lifting, ladder climbing, dusting/cleaning high and low surfaces/areas, changing light bulbs in ceiling/high areas
• Significant moving, breaking down, and setting up of chairs and tables

Special Environmental Factors:
• Cool or warm temperatures during some early or late hours (as HVAC system starts)
