Collections Intern

Department: Collections
Schedule: 2–5 days/week, Monday–Friday
Dates Required: At least three months
Supervisor's Title: Assistant Registrar and Assistant Curator, Collections
Compensation: Unpaid


Reports to Assistant Registrar, Collections and Research Associate. Duties include cataloguing objects (photographs, negatives, periodicals, ephemera) in TMS (The Museum System) according to ICP's style guide with attention to keywords; conducting research on objects; writing photographer biographies; organizing and housing objects; and creating finding aids of major holdings; as well as daily tasks relating to the maintenance of the collection. Interns will also be required to contribute one post a week to the ICP Collection blog, Fans in a Flashbulb.


B.A. in museum studies, art history, library science, or related field. M.A. preferred.


Knowledge of the history of photography, excellent research and writing skills, familiarity with databases, and an understanding of general museum practices. Must be able to follow detailed instructions. Must be interested in working with objects.
